The Virtues Of Fonio
For some years now, in the face of the “gluten-free” craze, fonio has started to make itself known and it has has become the new quinoa.
It is a food of great quality on a culinary and dietary level. Appreciated for its exceptional taste and nutritional properties because it is richer than other cereals.
It is rich in magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc, which contributes to the proper functioning of our immune system.
Fonio is a source of energy and protein that also contains 2 times more amino acids than other cereals. It is totally devoid of gluten. It is rich in fiber and very digestible and ideal for people who have constipation problems. That makes it a transit regulator.
Who Should Consume Fonio?
The short answer? Everybody!! Everybody should consume. It is a highly digestible cereal therefore ideal for diabetics, overweight people and for children suffering from malnutrition as well as for people with allergies.
Fonio is less rich in protein than other cereals, but it has a large number of sulfur amino acids such as methionine and cystine, two essential amino acids in the body.
Overweight or diabetics people should definitely eat fonio.
In addition to being excellent for health, this small cereal whose grains measure less than a millimeter, does not contain gluten and is extremely digestible.
Its nutritional and therapeutic qualities are incredible.
That is why fonio is slowly becoming the God grain in Western countries. Gluten-free and high in protein, today it is the new quinoa.
A CEREAL WITH SO MANY BENEFITS
Since fonio is a whole grain, it is rich in antioxidants, fiber, B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, copper and iron. What’s more, it also contains amino acids or amino acid derivatives such as cystine and methionine that help maintain a good metabolism.
Its glycemic index (GI) is lower than that of white rice. The GI calculation of a food is based on its effects on the blood glucose level within two hours of ingestion.
The higher the consumption of a food, the higher the GI. A low glycemic index diet would have a beneficial effect on health, in particular by reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes by controlling blood sugar, cholesterol and thus excess weight, all while reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
And voila, that’s how fonio makes us healthy; it’s become the most essential grain to our diet.
